02
biology
what it is
hyaluronic acid (hyaluronan) is a long-chain sugar that binds water in the dermis and the extracellular matrix. it is what gives well-hydrated skin its visible plumpness. unlike topical HA which sits on the surface, endogenous HA production happens inside the skin and produces a deeper, longer-lasting hydration signal.
the synthesis is run by a family of enzymes called hyaluronan synthases. peptide signals can upregulate these enzymes, increasing the rate at which the dermis manufactures HA from precursor sugars.
drip's discovery pipeline targets candidates that nudge hyaluronan-synthase expression while keeping irritation and stability scores in cosmetic-tier ranges. the result is a sequence engineered for hydration without the surface-only ceiling of HA serums.
